The National Fantasy Hockey League continues to strive to make improvements to our league in an order to challenge and engage our participants. With the feedback from owners in our February survey and additional recent feedback from ownership regarding proposals the Commissioners will focus on a few changes for the 2019-20 NFHL season including:
The league will expand the Phase 1 Reserve Roster selection to 5 players from the previous 3 players this season. NFHL teams will select 23 Active Roster and 5 Reserve Roster players in Phase 1 with the remaining 10 Reserve Roster players being selected in Phase 2. This change will bring options for GM's to acquire additional veteran or upcoming players into their rosters as Phase 1 protected players.
The 'Entry Level Contract' (ELC) player selection will be simplified removing the restriction by position previously limited to three on the Active Roster. GM's will now be able to select the maximum of 5 players on the Active Roster from any position or player they choose. As in previous season there is no restrictions on ELC players on the Reserve Roster.
The NFHL will expand the number of transactions in a season to 12 from the previous 10. Each NFHL team will accrue 1 transaction per week for the first 12 weeks of the season. Once a team acquires their weekly transaction it can be utilized. This rule change is in place to emphasis the importance of the initial Active Roster selection while still allowing the flexibility to change roster players as the season progresses.
The NFHL will change the prize pool awards to guarantee the top 4 overall teams receive compensation. In addition Division winners will no longer be guaranteed prize pool funds however will receive improved odds to win the Compensation Lottery. The Compensation Lottery pool will have increased funds with the top 25 teams being eligible for the prize pool with odds increasing based on overall standings. This will assure the top teams are financially awarded on performance while still allowing 25 teams to be eligible for prize award.
