The Smith Falls Rideaus remain the overall league leader going into the new year as they lead the ultra challenging Patrick Division. The Rideaus along with Division rivals Beloit Baboons and Amelia Island Iguanas are also the leagues top three overall teams.
This season the NFHL instituted a new prize pool format assuring the top four overall teams a guaranteed portion of the prize pool. This was done to assure top teams were compensated for overall performance.
Division winners are no longer guaranteed prize pool funds as those funds have been distributed to the top four overall teams as well as the Compensation Lottery prize pool.
NFHL teams must not take the Compensation Lottery lightly as this is the third highest payout of the prize pool. 25 teams are eligible for the Compensation Lottery with odds improving based on performance. The odds highly increase for teams in the Top 16 and division winners receive an additional 3% of odds which is significant.
Along with the Patrick Division leading Rideaus present division leaders are High River Firestorm in the Adams, Wissahickon Wolfpack in the Norris and Palm Spring Playboys in the Smythe.
Teams not in the the top 25 should strive to get there despite the hopes of a NFHL Championship may be dwindling. As for teams battling in the Top 25 the higher finish will only improve your chances of taking home a portion of the prize pool.
